Mark Zuckerberg announced a few weeks ago that there are some big changes on the way for the news feed. Facebook wants to focus on bringing “us closer together with the people that matter to us“.
“As we roll this out, you’ll see less public content like posts from businesses, brands, and media.”
So what exactly does this mean for small businesses?
This isn’t the greatest news for businesses, especially those that rely on the news feed to generate organic (not paid for) traffic. You can be pretty certain that the organic reach of your Facebook pages will drop in the next few weeks as these changes are rolled out.
But it’s not all doom and gloom as Mark Zuckerberg adds “the public content you see…… should encourage meaningful interactions between people.” Which basically means that if your business posts inspire back and forth comments, shares and reactions – they will be seen.
What can you do?
- Post quality over quantity – try creating more of your own posts
- Engage in conversations with your audience
- Build up a community
- Advertising – you should be able to get in front of relevant audiences with Facebook’s targeted advertising.
- Avoid engagement bait style posts
There are over 2 billion people using Facebook. Now is the time to figure out how you fit in.
